Horse cremation

Process

When a cherished companion dies, you might find yourself asking many questions. One of them is: ‘What happens to my precious pet now?’ If you decide to have your horse cremated at ROSENGARTEN Pet Crematorium, we will always be by your side. Our experienced team, not to mention a detailed schedule, create transparency and give you certainty when saying goodbye to your faithful friend.

1. Collection and transfer

We are available to assist you all year round and will do everything we can to collect your horse from your home, the boarding stable or your horse clinic as quickly as possible.  Depending on the location of your horse, your horse will be moved to the nearest of our horse -cremation facilities (either in Kirchberg BE or Küssnacht am Rigi).

We will discuss your wishes and all the important organisational points and fill out the cremation order (Kirchberg BE, Küssnacht) together. This document will be with your faithful friend every single step of its final journey. You can also bring your horse to us yourself by prior appointment.

We use a customised trailer to transport your faithful friend. Your horse is gently pulled into the trailer with the help of a cable winch and driven to our premises with dignity by our trained staff. In Kirchberg BE, we have been working with the transport service of the National Horse Centre (NPZ) in Bern for decades. In Küssnacht am Rigi, the transport is carried out by our own staff. Your beloved horse or pony is in good hands with us and the staff of the NPZ transport service.

If the situation allows, we recommend that you contact us in advance. If your horse has died unexpectedly or has been euthanised in an emergency, you can contact us by telephone 365 days a year. We will do our utmost to find an individual solution and take the necessary steps.

2. Arrival at the horse crematorium

Your beloved horse is transferred to our premises. Careful handling during unloading and transfer of a deceased horse from the transport vehicle to the cremation oven was already an important concern for us during the planning phase of our horse cremation sites. Thanks to the large hall door, each of our horse crematoria is directly accessible for the combination of towing vehicle and horse trailer. This allows the horse to be carefully unloaded with a crane and placed directly from the trailer onto the mobile furnace floor. If the furnace is occupied, the horse is first carefully placed in a trolley specially designed and manufactured for our crematorium and then stored for a short time in our accessible refrigerated room.

3. Farewell

The loss of a beloved horse fills us with deep sadness. Saying a dignified farewell is a final token of love and a sign of great appreciation. You can have a head collar or favourite treat put in with your horse for its symbolic journey over the Rainbow Bridge. ROSENGARTEN is a peaceful place where you can find time for your grief and give way to your emotions.

4. Cremation

The ROSENGARTEN Horse cremation sites are fitted with modern furnace technology enabling cremation of horses and other equines of all sizes and weights with dignity. After cremation, the ashes are placed in our standard cloth bag or in the standard wooden container.

You can also have extras (such as a picture, a favourite treat or a personal letter) cremated if desired. But, with respect for our environment in mind, this option should be used sparingly, and with materials that are as environmentally friendly as possible. Please be sure that you remove any mementos (like your horse’s head collar) that you would like to keep and that you don’t want to have cremated under any circumstances, before we take your pet into our care. If your horse wears iron horseshoes, they can be left on the hooves. We will gladly return the horseshoes to you along with the ashes after the cremation.

Horseshoes made of aluminium or plastic melt during cremation and therefore cannot be returned.

5. Handover

Meeting each and every requirement, we handle the process of having your horses’s ashes added to a cloth bag, a wooden box or a horse urn or making a memento such as a custom piece of jewellery. A personal memory of your horse is something that nobody can ever take away from you. It gives you comfort and strength during the difficult parting phase. Our keepsakes in the form of pet urns, jewellery and other mementos can be found on our website.

After cremation, the urn, jewellery and other keepsakes are carefully personalised. You can then either collect the ashes from us or, provided the total weight of the ashes including the cloth bag or wooden container and shipping packaging does not exceed 30 kg, we will send them to you by registered mail. Please note that we cannot ship the horse urns. We do our utmost to bring each pet back home in a timely manner.

If you particularly like one of the urns from our range for small animals, it is possible to keep some of the ashes in this small urn and place the rest in our communal grave, for example, or scatter them in nature (e.g. in a pasture). Scattering ashes is permitted in Switzerland.

6. Commemoration

We have created a place of safety and comfort on our premises. Where pet owners can grieve as they wish, where requests are heard, and the burden is lifted when you don’t know what to do anymore.
